Next visit

Your doctor will listen to baby’s heartbeat; check your blood
pressure, weight and urine.
Continue to follow baby’s growth!
Your baby
Baby weighs about 3-4 lbs. and is 16-17 inches in
length.
Baby’s skin is pink and slight wrinkled but becoming
smoother as the “baby fat” begins to be gained.
In the last months of your pregnancy, the baby has
less room to move, so you will notice fewer big
turns and twists and more “squirmy” movements.
The lungs are continuing to mature and the nervous
system is growing!
For the partner
Continue to participate in the naming of your baby.
You might be feeling a little worried about being
supportive enough during labor. This anxiety is
normal – take a childbirth preparation class or read
an appropriate book to help you know what to
expect.
Also, trust in yourself!!
Your body
The following symptoms are typical:
Decrease in energy – make sure that you get
plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and eat small
frequent meals.
Heartburn – try to avoid overfilling your stomach,
avoid fatty, fried or spicy foods, avoid lying down
after meals, sleep propped with pillows, and try
TUMS, Mylanta or Pepcid to help. If none of this
helps, advise your physician.
Low back pain – your posture changes as the
pregnancy progresses and pelvic joints loosen.
Use your legs rather than your back when lifting
objects, wear low heeled, supportive shoes, apply
heat or cold to your back, consider a maternity
belt. These can be purchased at most maternity
stores.
Shortness of breath – due to the enlarging uterus
pushing on your diaphragm and crowding your
lungs. Sit up straight, avoid restrictive clothing,
and avoid overexerting yourself.
If you develop sudden, severe shortness of
breath with rapid breathing and rapid pulse
or have blueness in your fingers or lips, seek
medical attention immediately.
Pregnancy tips
Don’t forget to submit your pre-registration
packet to your delivering hospital.
Start thinking about and consider meeting a
pediatrician before delivery!
It remains safe to have sex although you might
have to find new ways to enjoy making love.
A slight bloody vaginal discharge or mild
contractions are normal for up to 1 hour after
intercourse. If your physician has informed you
not to be sexually active, then, of course do NOT!
If you think that you will be interested in a tubal
ligation (permanent sterilization) after this baby is
born, be sure to talk to your physician to discuss
options and to complete any necessary paperwork
in time.
Begin kick counts – baby should move 10
times in 2 hours once during the day. If this is
not occurring, drink something sweet, lie on
your side and see if the movements increase.
If they do, continue daily kick counts. If not,
GO TO L&D!!
