This visit
Check blood pressure, weight and urine.

Listen to your baby’s heartbeat.

Measure your baby’s growth by measuring the size
of your abdomen.

Check baby’s position.

Check your cervical dilatation.

Next visit
Your next scheduled visit will be in 1 week.

Your doctor will listen to baby’s heartbeat, check your blood
pressure, weight and urine.

Continue to follow baby’s growth!

Check your cervical dilatation.

Your baby
Your baby weighs about 5-7 lbs. and is about 19
inches long.

Baby’s lungs are usually mature and the baby is
continuing to develop baby fat and finish the last
stages of maturation.

The lanugo and vernix continue to disappear
except on the back or shoulders and the skin folds
respectively.

The bones of the head are firm but flexible enough
to pass through the birth canal.

For the partner
Try to spend a few moments together to relax and
prepare for your new roles of parenting.

Share your ideas and thoughts about your baby and
your future.

Your body
Your cervix will thin (efface) and dilate and the
baby’s head will continue to drop into the pelvis.

These changes can begin several weeks before
labor or only at the time of labor!

Increase in vaginal discharge is normal;
occasionally there might be a spot of blood mixed
with the mucus or a pink stain on the toilet paper
with wiping – this is normal.

Hand numbness/tingling of the fingers with
certain activities is very normal – it is a variation
of carpal tunnel syndrome due to swelling of the
wrist joints. If the numbness becomes constant,
let your physician know at your next visit.

Pregnancy tips
If you develop bleeding like a menstrual
period, go to labor and delivery.

If you develop a gush of water running down
your legs or a constant trickle of fluid then
you might have broken your bag of water
and you should go to labor and delivery.

If you develop painful uterine contractions
(you are unable to walk) every 3-5 minutes
for more than 2 hours, go to labor and
delivery.

If baby’s movements are not 10 times in 2
hours, go to labor and delivery. Remember
though that baby’s movements will slow
down over time and you will feel more
squirming and wiggling than sharp kicks as
the baby runs out of room.
