Next visit
Your next scheduled visit will be in 1 week.

Your doctor will listen to baby’s heartbeat; check your blood
pressure, weight and urine.

Continue to follow baby’s growth!

Check your cervical dilatation.

Your baby
Your baby is reaching his or her birth weight and
length.

At birth, your baby will have reflexes including
grasping, startling, sneezing, coughing, sucking and
blinking.

Your newborn baby will be able to smell, taste, hear
and feel your touch on its skin.

Baby can see an object at about 8 inches away
– the same distance from your face to baby’s face
during breastfeeding or cuddling with the bottle.
Make eye contact with your newborn!!

For the partner
Your partner will begin a new role of motherhood
and this can be a difficult transition for you both.

To stay involved:
Spend time with the baby, help with feeding if
possible, and rock your baby when you get home
at night.

Offer to take care of baby so your partner can
spend some time to herself, prepare a bubble bath
for her, and go out on a date if possible.

Your body
You will continue to have aches and pains of
pregnancy including some swelling, heartburn,
Braxton Hicks contractions, low back discomfort
and low pelvic discomfort. Be sure to talk to your
physician about any concerning symptoms.

Try to get as much sleep as you can although it is
very difficult.

Just remember, you will have your body back
again soon!!!

Pregnancy tips
Remember, labor is unpredictable!!

An induction of labor (starting contractions) is
something that can be considered after 39 weeks
depending on whether or not this is your first
baby and how dilated your cervix is. There are
pros and cons to this. Your physician can discuss
with you whether or not this is your and your
baby’s best option.

Baby is considered postdates (overdue) usually
after 41 weeks. If you are undelivered after that
time, your physician will discuss an induction of
labor or intensive monitoring of the baby after
that time.
